Show \Sllee~)J My grand father lived alone for some tims, in A little frame house not Far to the north froa our hoae, then he married "Roemma Garner TErry.; she had had 1,- children with her first husband, some of had pas ••d a.-" but ehe brought 4-or 5- to liy with her & grandfather for A while, befor ~ long they got married & aoyed to Idaho. She used to get on her hlgh horse eyery on in A while, & she would awing her fist back & forth in front of his face, & be would juat sit there- Finely he aaid- " you can allyou want to but never lay your hands on m8,2Ua kids used to go up & keep him company qulet often, One day I waa up there I said to him .. GRANDPA let me cut your hair, He said "O.K. He was always A kind old aol •• I was only about l2-or-l', then. ao got the sizors & clippers & went to work, he alwaya wore his hair out oyer his eara- & aide burna & beard. 50 J went to work, & I ever trim him up cute. I trimed all the hair off hia ears &" aide burna, & I dont know what elae, he sat there so peasful, 111 he was enjoying' it. soon his wife steped in, O-B 0 YO she just went right up through the cel1ing. ehe was sure mad, & she said You would sit there & let anyone cut your ass of & never say A word. & he just smiled. " think I took off for home. It was'nt after that till he passed away. 3- Feb- 1909. & was burried in the Ogden CityCem cematery. by his wife,& roamma ,soon moved to Idaho with her family. The night :Of:rtto~* Grand Father died we were eating suopp~~ we heard Roemma coming down the path jus A screamilg. & Father jumped up & said to the boys "caae on" & they all went on the run. & she said Grandpa ia dead, & Father ss where is he & she said, around to the back. so Father ran around there & there he was, kneeling on the edge of the old cutter wi arm _ ~~ up over the dash board, Father said if he had made one strugle he would of fell off. four of my oldest brothers when they got 01 enough went with their Father & took up carpenter work, & went to work with their Father. they were called} Harbertson Contracto They did'nt get far away from home as they had to go by horse & bup,-p:y, 'l'hey built many homes in Morgan. Father built our home wh they moved to South Weber. It was A rock buiiding & was A nice home at that time. It had threeb •• rooms,A good size dineing ro & A parlor, ~~t~aul way between the dinning room & the kitchen,.Then a hawl room going down the basement, & going up st Up stares was large bed room where the boys slept. A nice big yard, with scrubs & shade trees & lawn. There was A good size po of water just north of the house where us kids spent lots of play time, there were lots of frogs in the pond, & at night the fro wou ld sing us to sleep; There was A big canal just A little west of our ho.e, which was ce.ented later. Father & the boys used go swiming in it. Father used to put us smaller ones on his back' swim with us. we thou~ht that waa great. When we got a little older, I asked Mother if us sirls could go in the canal. & she said2 ~no, so after a while we desided to try it any way, So my brother Joe's wife (NELL) And Ada & my brother Willes wife'S sister idna & my self,went ~own there, Nell sit on , the bank & they let Edna & I down in the canal with a rope. the water was deep & swlft, & slick on the bottom. we had not hardly got in when ~dna got down the stream a little further than me, when my feet went out fro. under me & I went under, the wa was so swift that ~dna could hardly get back to me, I went down, & come up, & down I went again & was just was going down the ~ ! when ~dna reached me. Ada & Nell was screamins on the bank, & throad Edna the rope & they pulled me out just in time •• we desid~, right there that it was much better to listen to our dear Mother. Jo we didBnt try that again. Mother worked hard taking care of her big family,& helpingon the farm, we always had a Big garden,& in the spring it was so go' to have all the young potatoes, some about the size of a walnut,& larger, young peas & corh & every thing else to eat when they, young & fresh. We also had all the fresh fruit of all kind to eat •• Mother never had A doctor when having her babies, till the one. she always had A mid wife, (Mrs Christen Fernelious) she used to try to help with the washing sitting up in bed. They only had a old washer th~t you had to turn by hand, it did'nt do much cleaning, so they had to s6rub part of the cloths on old wash board. ,ihen she would<' the ironing they had to heat the irons on the old iron cook stove. ~~en my sister Lizzie got older she worked hArd heUping Mother,take care of the little ones, & cooking fOJ them all. also help!nl on the farm. ~hen she got about IB-or19- some times she would go work out for other people & she only go. ~.OU per week. then sh, soon gut married, To Archie T. Hill. They also lived on A farm, & had to work hard.
