Show NPS Form 10-900a (Rev. 8/86) NPS/CHS Word Processor Format (Approved 03/88) OMS No. 1024-0018 United States Department of the Interior National Park Service NATIONAL REGISTER OF mSTORICPLACES, CONTINUATION SHEET Section number _____ 7 Page _____ 3 designated as the ·work programs office· which extends the full width of the house, 24 ft. by 20 ft. The most northerly of the three entry doors on the front enters this room from the west. The large fireplace noted from the outside dominates the east wall. Another room of size 17 ft. by 17 ft., designated as the ·plan room· is present under the prominent gable on the front (west) side. One of the front doors enters this room. Immediately east of the ·plan room· is an unidentified room of dimensions 10 ft. by 18 ft., which extends into the brick addition. Also present in the brick addition east of the ·plan room· are two storage rooms (of 6 ft. by 6 ft. and 3 ft. by 9 ft. dimensions) and a large bathroom, 6 ft. by 9 ft., including tub. Still another room of 12 ft. by 15 ft. along with a closet or storage room occupies the remainder of the brick extension. Finally, the portion at the far south, noted above as having a second floor as well as a basement, is separated from the ·plan room· by an entry type room, 6 ft. by 9 ft. The third front door enters this room. The first floor in this southern portion consists of one room, 16 ft. by 24 ft., with stairways leading both up and down to the second floor bedroom (now designated ·attic·), of 16 ft. by 32 ft., and to the basement (now designated ·mech. room.·) of 16 ft. by 24 ft. Though there is some evidence of changes and alterations, the exterior of the house appears to be relatively little changed from the original. The roof with aluminum vents and chimneys is obviously relatively recent. All but four windows are modernized; the original windows are those of twelve panes. All the wall and porch construction of cut stones, wood, stucco, tile, and even the brick section at the back, are either original with the house or were added rather early. Though the brick section gives some appearances of later addition, close inspection of the juncture between brick and stone construction indicates that it was probably original. The interior floor plan was modified since the original construction of the house. Certainly, bathroom facilities with indoor plumbing were added later. The configuration of rooms at the north and in the brick section are probably modified. However, the attic, basement, and the intervening first floor room at the south end as well as the large room with fireplace designated the ·Work Programs Office· are undoubtedly the same. |
