You do not need to complete Part 1 of the application. Enclosed is the complete application package for the state historic preservation tax credit which provides for a credit equal to 20 percent of qualified rehabilitation expenditures against your state income tax. The state tax credit law requires that all proposed or on-going work must be approved by our office as meeting the Secretary of the Interior's Standards for Rehabilitation before the project is completed. Also, a minimum of $10,000 must be spent on the rehabilitation over a maximum period of 36 months. There is no fee to apply for this tax credit. This application is separate from any review or application that may be required by a local preservation commission or other organizations (e.g., Landmarks Commission or the Utah Heritage Foundation). We encourage you to apply as soon as possible to verify if anyon-going work meets the Secretary of the Interior's Standards for Rehabilitation. Once work is underway, changes to bring the project into conformance with the Standards can be difficult, expensive or occasionally impossible to make. Photographs showing all areas of work prior to the beginning 'of construction are required as part of the application.
