Show 44 INTERSTATE COMPACTS States. The President is hereby requested to give notice to the Gov- ernor of each State of approval by the Congress of the United States. In Witness Whereof, the Commissioners have executed four coun- terparts hereof, each of whidh shall be and constitute an original, one of whidh shall be deposited in the archives of the Department of State of the United States, and one of which shall be forwarded to the Governor of each State. Spence Commissioner for the State of Texas Clarence Burch Commissioner for the State of Oklahoma Approved: Berkeley Johnson Representative of the United States of America NOTES Congressional consent to negotiations.-By the Act of April 29,1950 (64 Stat. 93), the Congress gave its consent to the negotiation by the States of Oklahoma, Texas and New Mexico not later than June 30, 1953 of a compact "providing for an equitable apportionment * * * of the waters of the Canadian River * * *." This consent was given upon the condition that one suitable person, appointed by the Presi- dent, should participate in the negotiations and make a report to the Congress of the proceedings and of any compact entered into. It was also provided that the compact should not be effective until it had been ratified by the legislature of each of the States and "approved" by the Congress. State ratifications.-Oklahoma, Act of March 22,1951 (Sess. L. 1951 p. 326; Okl. Stat. 1951, Title 82, sees. 526.1ff). New Mexico, Act of Feb. 7, 1951 (Laws 1951, p. 5; N. M. Congressional consent to compact.-The consent of the Congress was given to the Canadian River Compact by the Act of May 17, 1952 (66 Stat. 74) from which the text of the compact above set out is taken.
