Show 161 -- 157-- there miles below the mouth of the San Rafael is readily accessible on foot or horseback, but not with motor truck; there is a road along the east side which is back from the river; it might bring you within about five miles of the San Rafael, and on the west side to within about two miles of the San Rafael. There are such roads as you could walk ever at night without killing yourself, which indicates they are not exactly in a canyon. R. 352- 333. So far as the witness knows, the Green River is not accessible from the plateau after entering the canyon, but he saw wild horses and cattle tracks, indicating that they had found their way down to the river from plateau. The witness saw no human beings in the canyon [ of the green]. He saw signs of humans having been at the mouth of Roaring Canyon, from inscriptions on the rocks. At the mouth of Roaring Canyon there is a side canyon that can be ascended onto the plateau. R. 353. It is possible at other places to get into the canyon, but not cut, because of the high rim. The canyon of the Green is more or loss continuous, but in broken by a number of side washes. There are several tributaries that have openings 1000 feet wide flowing into the Colorado, but in general it [ the canyon] in intact. R. 354. The witness in to familiar with the Platte, red, Arkansas, or the Rio Grande Rivers, this being his first experience with streams in the southwest. [ Note: Discussion by Counsel]. R. 355- 358 |
