Show 90 -- 86-- Agriculture, entitled, " Silt in the Colorado River," which is an exhibit in evidence - I do not know the number - indicates that there may be between 10,000,000 and 30,000,000 cubic yards of sediment carried annually into the canyon at Greenriver. " By Mr. Farnsworth: " Q It may be between 10,000,000 and 30,000,000? " A Yes, sir; it may be between 10,000,000 and 30,000,000." R. 193. " There is apparently a constant deposit of this silt which is carried in the river at Greenriver, and a redistribution and an assorting of the silt and sediment brought in at San Rafael and other wide washes. The fact that those tributaries bring in the debris is shown very clearly by the bar formations which were surveyed at the mouth of the washes." R. 194. The falling in of the banks of sandbars also contributes to the amount of silt in suspension. " The wind is ordinarily supposed to contribute to some extent to the sediment in the river. I think photograph No. 40 - A of Exhibit No. 77 is a snap of a sandstorm blowing up the river so strongly that we could not row against it in our boats and had to camp; it just shows the sand there." R. 194. In his opinion the big boat which was brought overland from Moab to Greenriver for his use in connection with his examination of the rivers, and returned to Moab, could not have been brought by water upstream from the mouth of the Green River to Greeniver, Utah.
