Show 78 -- 74-- canoe. Talking the matter over with Mr. Baldwin, we decided that we could not - " Q Who is Mr. Baldwin? " A Mr. Baldwin is one of the owners of the Moab Garage Company, the principal operator of the boats. And we decided that we could not launch the boat at Greenriver, and we hired an auto, to see if we could get down to what is know as Wimmer's ranch, what used to be Wimmer's ranch, on the east side of the river, opposite the mouth of the San Rafael. We went by automobile, a sedan, to about within three miles of that ranch, when the road passed into the desert, into the sand, and it was impossible to go beyond that point, event with a sedan." R. 178- 179. Wimmer's ranch is right across from the mouth of the San Rafael. " At one time probably 300 or acres might have been irrigated with a wheel, the location of which was in the river somewhat about the mouth of the San Rafael. Apparently, there are some possibilities of irrigation, provided sufficient money is spent to maintain a wheel to divert the water to a higher level. " Q Well, is there anybody there now? " A No one is there now; the house has fallen in; there are no signs of any one living there, I should say, for there or four years, possibly. " Q Are there any other rancher between there and Greenriver on the seats side of the Green River? " A On the east side, there is one, apparently an |
