Show 54 -- 51-- " Q And you think that that was the only reason that you went by boat rather than by horseback? " A I know it was. We had the boats there, tied up in Moab, and we had the pack out there, and we were remote from the river; but we could not get to all the points along the river that we wanted to see; so we made this special trip by the boat down the river to places that we were not able to see when we were working back from the river." R. 125- 126 He does not know any of the owners of the oil wells near the Colorado River, and he has never heard them express any antipathy to automobiles or horses. R. 126- 127. Some of the work of surveying the land on the river south of Moab " was done in 1927, some was done in 1926 - in fact, they were still working on it in 1929 - 1926, 1927, and 1928, I mean." R. 129. The land surveys shown on the map are of very recent date but they are not brought up to date. " Q Yes, but I mean the ones that are shown here ( indicating) are of very recent date? " A Some are and some are not. Along Moab Valley, which is the country that was first settled, the first surveys were made back in 1886. " Q I mean the country to the south there ( indicating) as to which you testified as to the scarcity of the inhabitants. " A Surveys were made, I should say, all of them, within the last twelve years, or something like that; that is, in the country that I am familiar with." R. 127- 128. |
