R. 146. Complainant's Exhibit No. 78, being plates 38 to 46, referred to in Mr. Hoyt's report [ Complainant's Exhibit No. 75] as Appendix C, was received in evidence. R. 146. He arrived at Green river September 27th, 1928. R. 146. The Government maintains a gauging station at Greenriver. " A gauging station is maintained for the purpose of determining the daily flow, and from that the monthly and yearly run- off, of any stream at any point. The equipment consists of a guage, [ Sic. gauge] which formerly was a staff gauge, but now, in general, is a recording gauge, from which the heights of the river are obtained. In connection with the gauging station, measurements are made of the discharge. The discharge is measured by determining the width, the depth and the velocity. And knowing the width, depth and the velocity, the discharge in cubic feet per second is obtained. When that is ref-erred to a gauge height, some sort of relation is obtained from which the daily flow throughout the year is obtained. Now, the Geological Survey maintains gauging stations on all the rivers of the country, and in connection with those has maintained one at Greenriver, Utah." R. 147 |
