He did not get into the stream at all and did not have a boat. He walked along the bank. With him were Mr. Koyer, Mr. Blake and Mr. Baldwin, who rendered him partial assistance. " Q ( Reading) Gravel and large submerged rocks noted. Could you see those submerged rocks? " A Yes, sir." R. 326. The water was fairly clear; " It is not clear river, but where you have a large rock in the river and the water flows over it, you know there is a rock there." R. 326. " Q Well, then, you could tell from the shape; you could not see the rock, but you could tell from the shape in the surface of the river; is that the idea? " A Well, I have gravel and large submerged rocks indicated there ( indicating). There were practically no rocks actually sticking through the water there; they were exposed in that way. " Q Did you observe any channel through that place where you have written " Many exposed and submerged rocks?" " A Well, all the river flows through there, " Q Any difficulty in getting a small boat through there, would you say? " A I would not want to go down through it myself, no, sir." R. 326- 327.
