In his trip up the Colorado River, outside of the shanties at the oil wells, he did not see any homes or ranches or other signs of habitation. R. 269. C. to make the examination of the rivers in Utah to which he has testified. He went first to Greenriver, Utah. R. 271. " I arrived at Greenriver 3 p. m. September 27, on Thursday, and Friday I was in the vicinity of Greenriver. Saturday I was making an investigation of the bar at Greenriver. It was Monday morning that I really left with the boat for the junction." R. 272. He left on the boat Monday morning October 1st, for the mouth of the San Rachael River. The plan to have the large boat shipped from Moab over to Greenriver, to be used on the trip, was formulated by him from Washington, with the district engineer and hydraulic engineer at Salt Lake City. ( R. 273). He had never seen the river before. R. 272. It was after he had made his trip from Greenriver to the mouth of the San Rafael that it was decided not to use the large boat. It took a week to make the examination from Greenriver to the mouth of the San Rafael, and it was at the end of this time that it was decided not to used the big boat, which had been brought overland to Greenriver [ from Moab].
