Show 149 -- 145-- Canyon]. R. 319. After he got down below the mouth of San Rafael, he had to handle the canoe, and Mr. Blake handled the other boat, and Mr. Moyer took soundings and notes below there. He does not suppose that Mr. Moyer is and export river man. R. 320. " Q When you got some very shallow soundings, you would not wish to testify that, at a point even a short distance removed to the right or the left of you, you would not get a very much greater depth than that? " A I would be willing to testify that we probably would not. " Q Yes; but I am asking you about - I do not ask you to testify what you probably would or would not do. " A You see, I can only testify as to the depths that either I observed, or Mr. Moyer observed, or I observed with the cars. You see, I was rowing from the mouth of the San Rafael; and you get an awfully good idea of the depth of the river, the man that is rowing the boat." R. 320. When rowing, " you often know when you are getting on a bar," and probably turn off and get into deeper water. They often found a deeper channel after they went on a bar. " Q And the things between the mouth of the San Rafael and Greenriver that, in your opinion, caused that part of the stream to be less easily navigated by boats such as you used than the balance of the Green River down to the confluence, and the Colorado up to Moab, are the riffles, concerning which you testified, the bars and riffles; is that correct? |
