Show 94 -- 90-- Geological Survey through the rivers under consideration. " Q Well, now, I am referring to these green markings and red markings, apparently in the river bed. " A Based on the profiles and the surveys made by the topographers of the Geological Survey, I have shown in red the location and the number of all rapids." R. 201- 202. " I have shown in green the location where the slope is such that, in all probability, there is rapid water. I have left in white the location where, in all probability, the slope is such that the flow might be termed quiet water, or smooth water." R. 2002. The maps prepared by him show the river " as I saw it", and the " Conditions as shown by the profile surveys made by the Geological Survey, and the numbers which were given the rapids by the topographers when they made the survey." R. 203- 204. " Q Yes; but what I mean is that you said " probably" rapids, or " probably clear water." What do you mean by that; because it was either a rapids as you saw it, or else it is your estimate of what it might be at some other time. " A Yes. The rapids, or the location of the rapids, is correct. The exact extent, as to whether it is 1,300 feet or 1,200 feet, is a question of judgment, but the location of the rapids and the number is the official designation of the rapids through Cataract Canyon, as determined by the topographers when they made their survey. |
