In stating on direct testimony that he pulled the boat up 30 feet he meant that was the height to which it was pulled, but in pulling it up he would have to pull it 50 feet in order to get it higher. Complainant's Exhibit NO. 45 illustrates the height of the wall where the water rose 40 feet. R. 83. Complainant's Exhibit No. 38 is the picture of a hole. The water was not quiet on either side of it. He was standing on a rock or boulder on the shore overlooking the hole when the picture was taken. A rock completely covered by water cannot be seen in that picture. The boats were lined with very great danger of getting in the hole but they did not get into it. R. 84. " By the Special Master: " Q By this " hole", you merely mean the circular effect produced by auction, which draws the water in? " A No, this differs from that. In a whirlpool you do have the hole which is farther down. " Q This is under the rock? " A Yes. They simply call this a hole, not because it is a hole, but it looks like a hole; it does look like a hole as you come down to it." R. 84- 85. He did not take picture with the 8 x 10 camera of the most turbulent scenes of the river. He left that work to be done by the motion picture camera. On this second trip he had a fast camera and took pictures of the more turbulent section. These latter pictures he has in another book. R. 85.
