Show Record " From this point to Lees Ferry, Arizona, one hundred and fifty miles, the trip was uneventful." That was true so far as particular trouble was concerned. 1451 In my testimony yesterday I referred to a rapid in the 1452 vicinity of Escalante Creek. In my diary under date of July 1st I remember making the following notation, which is true: " Only had a few rapids, none of them bad, but had a great deal of swift water, so that we made nearly 50 miles; ate our lunch in an alcove. Brown staked some placers, but doesn't seem inclined to give the rest of us a chance." Under date of June 21st I made the following notation in my diary: " Made a platter of hot soup. In the afternoon Brown, Reynolds and I went up to the principal placers in No. 2; had a 1453 hard time of it, pulling up the river. Folks glad to see us." I didn't do any rowing that time. I took my camera along. I went along to take pictures. 1455 Defendant's Exhibits A, B, C, and D were changed to Exhibits No. 1, 2, 3 and 4. Complainant's Exhibits 178 to 220, inclusive, being photo-graphs along the Green and Colorado Rivers, were received in evidence. 1456 I cannot tell where exhibit 178 was taken. I don't remember about that. Exhibit 179 was taken in the upper part of Labyrinth at what we call the " Mountain of the Cross". Exhibit 180 was taken in Cataract Canyon, between some of the cataracts. Between the cataracts there is a great deal of 1457 swift water but smooth. Exhibit 181 was taken in Cataract Canyon between rapids. Exhibit 182 was taken in Cataract Canyon. The top of the rapid photographed white. Exhibit 183 was taken in Glen Canyon. Exhibit 184 was taken in Cataract Canyon. I think they are portaging a boat there. We called that our worst rapid. Exhibit 185 is in Cataract Canyon. We had to make a portage there. |
