Show Record Exhibit 118 shows Ashley Falls from down stream looking up. 119 shows Ashley Falls looking down stream. 872 Exhibit 120 shows Red canyon, the first long canyon in Utah before you get to Brown's Park. Complainant's exhibits 103- A to 120, inclusive, received in evidence, subject to defendants' objections. Exhibit 103 shows a dam on the Grand River above Grand Junc- 873 tion. The other pictures on exhibit 103 show Westwater canyon in Utah. Exhibit 102 was taken in Westwater Canyon in Utah. Complainant's exhibits 102 and 103 were received in evidence subject to defendants' objections. 874 On a second trip through a rapid I always look it over again 875 to note any changes. When we made our 1911 trip we were under the impression that 876 the extreme low water stage was the safest time to make the trip. The months of the year when the water is not at what is called high water are the safer months for making trips. Henry E. Blake testified for complainant on direct examination 878 as follows: 879 I live at Monticello, Utah. I have been hired as boatman several times by the United States Government parties. My first experience with a boat was on the Greenriver at Greenriver, Utah, as a boy. I made one trip at the age of 13 years with my father in a gasoline launch form Greenriver to Moab and from Moab back to Green-river. I am now 32 years old. I was on the San Juan River in 1921. 889 I had had no experience on the San Juan River prior to that time. I have only been on the San Juan River that one trip. I 881 helped launch the boats about 4 miles below Bluff. They were open boats, straight sides, 16 feet long, flat bottom and 4 feet beam and 12 inch draft when loaded. On the first day we went down the 883 river to Butler wash. I took the oars and took the boat down 884 stream to a certain point just at the Narrows and there one or two |
