He went down in a row boat but came back in a power boat, used a power boat up stream. 952 We had less trouble on that journey I took with my father and his party in 1909 than I had on the trip that I took with Mr. Hoyt in 1928. Henry E. Blake testified on re- direct examination as follows: I also made a trip from Green River, Wyoming, to Greenriver, Utah, with some college students prior to my trip with Mr. Hoyt. I was boatman on that trip. Henry E. Blake testified on examination by Special Master 953 as follows: When I went down with Mr. Hoyt I did not use any maps. I imagine there were some on board. Certain types of bars would be more or less permanent from year to year. In the rapids there is no sand to amount to 954 anything to impede the boats. A map containing the location of the rapids and the location of the permanent bars, would be of aid in navigating the river. Ellsworth L. Kolb testified on examination by Special Master as follows: On both of the trips I testified to I had maps supplied by 956 the United States Geological Survey. Those were the only maps I had. They were not a complete contour survey. They were approximate 957 but inaccurate in many cases. We never used the maps to help us avoid sand and sand bars. We used them only to locate our camps and prominent land marks. We never used the maps for the purpose of operating the boats. R. C. Clark testified for complainant on direct examination 959 as follows: I am 48 years old. I live at Moab and am in the garage - 132- 1248 |
