Show Record We had about the same amount of supplies. When I went down the 1119 first time I had only the knowledge that my father had given me in regard to the condition of the canyon. I had no maps or charts or surveys. John Galloway testified on re- direct examination as follows: In going through Cataract Canyon I made portages on both trips. I carried the duffle in Cataract Canyon pretty near from one 1120 end of it to the other. When I was going through there alone, at intervals of rapids I would tie up and take most of my equipment below the rapids, and then I would either run the rapid or line it, whichever I thought I could do the easier. I lined it alone. In between rapids I would load my boat and carry my load down to the next rapid, and when I come to one that I thought it was safer to line my boat on, I would line my boat there, and I repeated that process. 1121 I run rapids only after a personal examination. Parley Galloway testified for complainant on direct exami-nation as follows: 1123 I am forty years of age. I have worked at farming, mining, 1124 trapping and boating. I have run the Green River from as far up in Wyoming as it is boating water down to the Needles, California. I have been on other rivers in the Northwest. On the Green River I had made 4 or 5 trips through the 1125 Flaming Gorge, Red Canyon and Desolation Canyon. In my opinion you could probably go up the Green River 1126 from Greenriver, Utah, 7 or 8 miles. On the Green River North of Greenriver, Utah, I have not seen any boats engaged in carrying either freight or passengers. I have made 4 or 5 trips on the Green River from Greenriver, Utah, down to its junction with the Colorado. I always found - 149- 1265 |
