Show Record Colorado River. The pink color on the map indicates the out- crop 1019 of formations between the Wingate sandstone and the Shafer limestone. The blue indicates the out- crop of the Shafer limestone and formations below it. Complainant's Exhibit 125, being a map showing formations, was received in evidence. The photograph marked Exhibit 125 shows in the background the escarpment on the west side of the Colorado river. The Colorado River flows in front of this excarpment. The foreground is the valley of Moab. The picture shows the State highway from Thompson to Moab. Complainant's Exhibit 125, being photograph of the country 2/ 1/ 2 miles below the junction of the Colorado and Green Rivers, was received in evidence. 1020 Complainant's Exhibit 126, being a photograph of the country 2/ 1/ 2 miles below the junection of the Colorado and Green Rivers, knows as Spanish Bottoms, was received in evidence. 1021 We surveyed 50 miles west from the Green River. The 1022 land there lies in three main benches. From my experience as an engineer I would say that the land on either of those benches is not susceptible from the river except by trails and the various canyon and creeks. They are susceptible of being made accessible. 1023 The Discovery Well, Shafer No. 1, blew in in 1925, and burned down the drrick. It was then attempted to bring the well in, but the casing collapsed, due to enormous pressure in the well. It was finally brought under control, and the people tried to produce from the 2000 foot horizon, in which they were at first unsuccessful. They then drove the well to 3627 feet, where some more oil was encountered. That oil was used in the drilling of 1024 other wells. No oil has been shipped out. Any oil taken out before the contruction of a pipe line would have been taken up the river. There might have been a barrel or two taken up the river for analysis. - 140- |
