Show VII x Qld Paper and the Old Papermalers HE paper fabricated in the fifteenth an sixteenth century mills did not vary i size to the extent of later years, owing t the limited demand for sheets of diver dimensions. For every size of paper there had t be two mouldsand one deckle and these appliance were fashioned only with difficulty. In the earl years of printing, the paper was not cut and th sheets were printed upon in the original sizes i which they had been formed in the moulds, wit deckle edges on all four sides. There is a great variation in the thickness and finish of all antiqu paper and even in single books the leaves wil vary in weight to a marked degree. The tone o the old paper is never entirely uniform and owin to no chemicals having been used the best pape was ofa creamy tint, while the cheaper grade were a light coffee tone and sometimes a dark grey Diital image© 2004 Marriot Libary, University of Utah.
