Show OL PAPERMAKIN 8 was the letters, IR, which stood for Jacob Rittenhouse, a greatgrandson of the founder of the mill 10 William De Wees established the secon paper mill in the Colonies. This mill was reall nothing more than an outgrowth of the origina Rittenhouse establishment. It is recorded tha De Wees manufactured "an imitation of asses-ski paper which was well executed." Apparently thi mill used no watermarks in any of their papers In the year 1729 ThomasWillcox se up the third pape mill in the colonyo Pennsylvania. Thi mill used as a standard watermark a dove an olive branch design with the initials of the papermaker,~first T M W for the founder, and in late years the letters M W for Mark Willcox, the son who was operating the mill in 1767 Later an ivy leaf was adopted as ‘watermark, for the mill was covere with English ivy vines which ha been planted by Thomas Willcox This mill also used the familiar posthorn device as a papermark previous to1787.
