This absurd method for the teachin of writing and drawing was but little used and th interest in this rather novel idea lies chiefly in th fact that it was the first English patent relating t moulds for papermalsing. The earliest America patent pertaining to moulds is dated April 11,1793 and was granted to John Carnes, Jr., of Delaware The first English patent to deal with the actua malking of moulds was by Joseph Moseley Elliot and dated June 27,1793. The description reads "A machine or engine for working and binding o wire, and making of moulds used by papermalers and for the more correctand expeditious method o workingand binding of wire forsieves, screens, etc. While there are no rules for distinguishing th paper of one century or country from another, it i possible by making a study of laid-and chain-line and the character of their impressions and textur of the paper, to arrive at the approximate date an tell in what locality the paper was made. Wit wove paper it is not so easy to attach a date to th sheets, but paper of this kind was usually watermarked with the year in which it was made.
