Show 288 6475 4466 Karnell- D successfully Q What would you say was the minimum depth of the channel as you have seen it on any occasion at points at and below Chinle creek? A About three feet. Q In going up and down that river, Mr. Karnell, have you encountered difficulties from sandbars? A Yes. Q Tell us how great they were, and with what frequency you encountered those difficulties. A When we came out of a box into a large open space in the river, very often we would encounter a sandbar in the middle of the channel; that is, the water would divide; unless we were careful, and understood something about the way the river did with the sand, very liable to run out boats up on the sand. Q When you did get on to a sandbar, what amount of labor was involved in getting it off? A Took us about fifteen minutes to push the boat back in the water and go around. Q What that happen very often? |
