Show 151 6338 4329 William- D Q Which was nearer to the point where you were working, Kayenta or Bluff? A Kayenta. Q Now, what if any difficulties would there have been in supplying your party by boat? A Because of the deep, precipitous canyon it would have been extremely hard to get supplies from the river out on top of the mesas where most of our work was done. Q Would it have been practical to have gotten the supplies out? A No, it would have been decidedly impracticable. Q Now, take the section of the river from where you joined the party, Moonlight, say from there down to Clay Hill crossing, what is the nature of the river and canyon, if it is through a canyon, with respect to accessibility from the rim and back where your work was being carried on? A From the mouth of Moonlight canyon to Clay Hill crossing the river runs to a very deep canyon and high, precipitous ledges, and through it is possible in places to go down on foot, it is impossible to get stock to the river between those two points. Q You would have to carry your supplies back from the rim several miles on both sides, eighteen or twenty miles, as far as that? |
