Show 6415 4406 Woods- D A Well, I think I have possibly crossed the San Juan river in most all months of the year. For a good many years in that country we used to cross the San Juan river the whole year; I have crossed in the winter time, sometimes, on the ice, and sometimes we would ford it, and then riding there over the range we would possibly cross it -- I think possibly I would be truthful in saying I have crossed it every month in the year; there may be a few times in high water that we wouldn't cross for a month or so, possibly a couple of months. Q The matter of swimming a river is not a very diffi-cult or unusual feat for cattle men, is it? A No, I think not. Q Just how do you proceed when you come to the San Juan, let's say when it is not low water, and you have to swim your animals across, how do you go about it? A Well, I can tell you how we used to do it as boys; we used to do it for the pleasure of it, a good deal; we would just get alongside or our horse, get hold of the saddle, -- I mean to shove alone with our horse. Other times crossing we would just sit on the horse, ride the horse across, let him do the swimming. |
