Show Dellenbaugh- D believe it is on this map. BY MR. BLACKMAR: Q Supposing, Mr. Dellenbaugh, you give us the location of this town of Callville. A This place was never a town; it was a warehouse which was built by the Mormon Church about 1860 or 1863 or 1864, I have forgotten the exact date, for the purpose of storing goods that were to be brought up the Colorado by steamers to that point, which was considered head of navigation; from there they were to be transported by wagon to St. George and be brought out and distributed in that way; it was considered to be a cheaper way of getting goods into the country than coming across the plains. Q Where is that? interrupt your examination, but if that conclusion expressed by the witness as to what was considered the head of naviga-tion is meant for anything more than that the Mormons had their storehouse there and did not go further up with the other boats I want to move to strike that part of the answer. MR. BLACKMAR: I intend to introduce the basic evidence on which his conclusion is drawn. |
