The Site consists of two piles of soil, rock, and debris on the side of a steep, east facing slope. Between April and August 1995, eighteen soil samples were collected to characterize the Site. The sampling and analysis indicated an area of . approximately 20 feet by 350 feet contained elevated concentrations of arsenic and(or) lead. The contaminated soil will be removed and post removal samples will be collected, and the Site will then be graded to reduce the slope, and fill soil .will be hauled to the Site as part of the reclamation activities. Post reclamation samples will then be collected from the Site. This report describes the specific sampling plan for post removal and post reclamation sample collection. LOCATION AND DESCRIPTION • The Magna East Debris Site is located on Kennecott property along the east side of the road that connects the Magna and Bonneville areas and 100 feet east of the Magna Pump Station. The Site consists of two piles of material that have been dumped off the side of a steep east facing slope . Both piles consist of medium brown, gravelly sand mixed with approximately 20% debris, including pebble-sized slag fragments, metals, wood, and cement. An area, located in the southern portion of the Site covering approximately 30 feet east to west by 350 feet north to south, was found to be contaminated with lead and arsenic. SAMPLE COLLECTION The removal area consists of a 20 feet wide by 15 feet tall by 350 feet long excavation. Post reclamation samples will be collected from an area that includes all the ground disturbed by post removal and reclamation activities, which includes an area approximately 500 feet by 700 feet. A total of two post removal and six post reclamation samples will be collected from the Site. - ---·--Both post removal samples will be 8-point composites arranged in a rectangular configuration. Four of the subsites will be located halfway up the removal cut face wall and the other four will be centered in the 20 feet wide horizontal cut. Subsites will be spaced approximately 50 feet apart north to south and sample material will be collected from 0 to 6 inches below the surface. • Post reclamation sample sites will be arranged°on a north-south, 150 feet grid established in the field with a compass and measunng tape. Some of the gnd pomts (sample subs1tes) may be "adjusted" to fit within the reclamation area. Adjacent grid points will be composited together to M09padd.wpd* June IO, 1997 Rev. 0 |
