Show w~] • Kennecott Utah Copper Memorandum August 29, 1994 Dwayne Woolley Subject: Magna Railroad Scrap Yard The subject scrap yard is listed as site BOl on the Arthur, Magna, Bonneville Remediation/ Reclamation Project. The scrap yard has been characterized and found to be acceptable for use as backfill material at the old Magna Mill demolition site. • Several fine grained piles in the scrap yard have been identified as concentrate. As we discussed, the concentrate piles with no debris was recycled through the Smelter. Concentrate with rocks< 6 inches was recycled through the Bonneville Crusher, and concentrate with debris will be screened at the Smelter for recycle through the Bonneville Crusher. Once the concentrate has been removed from the area, the rest of the scrap yard may be used as backfill. Attached are the results of the SPLP analyses conducted on the scrap yard material showing no leachable metals above RCRA action levels (actually, results were all below the method detection levels). Before the area is disturbed for use as backfill, we should review the final reclamation plan. This plan should include drainage controls, erosion controls, and grading plans. Environmenta l will be responsible for area revegetation. The upper part of the rail yard is still active. Gary Goldberg and/or Scott Lawson should be contacted to coordinate work in the area.
