EL Well, you had to make ... just like, the same thing that is here, you have to find out how you can get it, you had to make applieation, for it, so I went to the place where you had to make the application, you get your application and then, if they need men, then they call you, one way or another, either way they can get you to ... for you to work. BM What was your first job there, what kind of work? EL Well, labor. BM What did you do? EL Well changing rails, changing ties, railroad ties, and whatever it had to be done in the railroad work, and I worked for about one year for the Burlington Line railroad ... then I worked one year there and then I got me a job for the Union Pacific then, that was ... like in about 1940. BM Did you have a different job in the Union Pacific or was it the same kind of work? EL Well, when I started at the Union Pacific I started as laborer too, and then I worked there in Denver, and in Denver I got transfered to Laramie, Wyoming, from Denver to Laramie, Wyoming. BM With the railroad? EL With the railroad, yes, and then I worked there for 3 or 4 years, as a laborer, and then in 1943 I was ... I applied for section |
