Show INTERVIEW: Nieves Page 36 qualified Mexican-Americans because they can't, we got over 300 in parole in the Salt Lake area and Ogden ... probation in Provo, and they like to have at least a half-dozen case workers, you know, parole officers. But, we can't get them. We just can't get them. Information was distributed to all communities somehow. But they don't want to apply. But for many years that's been a dirty word, cops been a dirty word. for our people. And until we tell our kids, you know, raise the image. Just like in school, you know. If you go to first grade, especially if you come from New Mexico where you been with our people all the time, you go to a classroom and all Anglos. The teacher is Anglo. And no image, and they don't feel at home. We need some kind of image to have our kids get interested in this type of thing. You know, I hope, you know, soon that we can get some of our children to be even in the University level to study higher education on ... law enforcement, you know. Somebody with a degree can get a very good job in the p~lice, detention home, whatever. Bob Springmeyer, he called me the other day, he wanted some of our people there. He is the Region Twelve Director, and says, 'I wish I could find some of our people that can work on the Region TwPlve', but somehow, I don't know why, they just don't.
