Show Interview: Isidro & Inez Marrufo Page 40 BM: Did you teach her how to dance, or how did she learn the Mexican dances? MM: Well, I taught her a little bit, you know, we used to love dancing. He's still a good dancer. SM: What? BM: Do you, when you came here, did you think very much of the Mexican culture has been kept in the United States with the Mexican people? MM: You can tell they was no really good culture for the Mexicans, just like I said one nation against another, if they can't get along there can be no culture in that way, you know so now, we worked more if all the people from New Mexico and the people from Old Mexico get united, you know, altogether, and make only one, one nation, it would be better, and that is why we are so much involved with this Chicano pledge, Chicano stuff and things like that, because we don't, it looks like we are ashamed of what we been what we are. And that is what the difference. BM: What do you think that causes the shame? MM: Just because, they caused the shame, this comes from way back, the Mexican and the United States, you know Santa Ana, there is the one that gave bad name to the Mexicans and New Mexican people, you know when the U.S. take New Mexico was for Mexico and all the people that was in the New Mexico they was Mexican people you know but they don't want to be no Mexican. You tell them that they are Mexicans and they get insulted and that is no fair, they are not supposed to be ashamed of their nationality, you are supposed to be proud and you give yourself more respect, you know, because you don't deny what you are before if you go someplace to look for a job and they |
