Show INTERVIEW: Nieves Page 25 course, I can open a business anytime that I wanted to, but the doctor told me not to. So, I ... but I was in business on and off for about 22 years. GC: And did you retire then, after 1967? RN: Well, when I came here, let's see, I operated, when I came to the hospital, it was about 1968. I already been operating that Out West Cafe for a couple of years and the other one, for about a year. So, I divided my time. I had 22 employees involved in both of them. And one, of course, was a bus stop, which is real good when you get a bus stop. And by '69, I already out of business in both of them. And you know, it took me a long time to get, when you have about $40,000 in the bank, and all of the sudden, you find yourself over by $23,000 in two years, and then you know you start thinking, 'What happened. How did this happen?' You are pretty well off one day and the next day you are completely broke. I manage to salvage about three automobiles and a couple of homes that I had, but that was all. But I had to let the rest go. My bookkeeper didn't take care of the books right, and then the Internal Revenue finally came after me and you know things started like this.
