Show INTERVIEW: Nieves Page 29 I applied and I went home after I got operated on and about two months later they call me that I was chosen for the job, and I almost fall off the chair, because I know that there was a lot of guys that applied, like Jess Castillo, and these guys you know, that are working for their Masters. A lot of real good people that applied for this job. But they say, 'You're the man that we want.' That's how I came up here, and sometimes I wonder. When I came across the street they opened the door just like that and they said, 'That's your office. 1 And everybody left ... nobody told me what to do or how to go about it, you know, but it has been a great experience. BM: This independent group ... what made you organize a group? RN: Well, we started, we were visiting on this house, and we were having beer, the fellows there. I don't like beer, I like the other stuff, but not beer! And they started talking about how they couldn't get a job. We know there are jobs; we can't get them. You know, they started complaining about education, about the whole thing. And I suggested, 'Why don't we form some kind of a group, you know ... try to help ourselves?' And that's how it came about. We didn't know how to go ... I didn't know what articles of incorporation were at that time, or anything likC' this, like> we> hav<.> right now ... how to go to thC' Capita 1 and get a charter or anything like that.
