Great deal of trouble was had with sand bars . 1926 , Jan ( -Next Next ) trip was in January , 1926 , and in the ( same saine ) month and in February made trips with the Moab Garage barge . ( On Oil ) the majority of the trips trouble was had with sand bars , making it necessary to use winches and tow lines in pulling the boat off the bars on the up trip . They generally got ( off ofT ) the boat at the East side of the river 2 about 111' ( miles iniles ) or 2 miles away from camp and walked into Moab , instead of riding the boat , because it was quicker and saved time . During July and August , September and October , made a number of trips down to the mouth of Lockhart Canyon . A few times on the ( barge'and bargeand ) the balance in a motor boat . Made about three ( -trips trips trips ) up in the motor boat , which he operated himself . Observed that . the ( channel' channel channel ) , changed very rapidly . Changes in the water level were rapid during July and August , especially when there were numerous thundershowers and freshets , and great trouble was had with the bars during this period . The greatest difficulty with his own boat , was encountered coming upstream at points where the bars completely crossed the river , making shallow water all the way . Insufficient for a small boat . Being stuck on these sand bars was quite common , and , it would be necessary to go out and wade across the stream with an oar , picking out where the water |
