Show Velocity Ill Testimony relating to ( stream strearn ) velocity is very ( apt ajYt ) to indicate wide differences . This is due to the fact that not only is there a very wide range in velocities throughout any cross section at any particular ( mo- mo ) ( ment inent ) and a difference in velocity at every change in cross section and slope , even though the stream discharge remains constant , but also a change in velocity with every variation in flow . In other words each change in volume of flow slope of river , , , size or character of bed channel is accompanied by a change in velocity . Velocity characteristics can therefore be shown clearly only at sections ( where where- where ) actual measurements of velocity have been made . These sections on the Colorado and Green , are limited to localities where stream gaging stations have been maintained by the U . S . Geological Survey , and for the rivers in question are located at : Green River , near Greenriver , Utah . Colorado River , near Cisco , Utah . Colorado River , at Lees Ferry , Arizona . The velocity characteristics at these stations , based on measurements by the U . S . Geological Survey , are shown in Compl . Exhibits 82 and ( 82-A 82A ) by Hoyt . As stated in the report and oral ( testimony testiniony ) , gaging stations are , of necessity , located where ( river river- river ) bed conditions are as favorable as possible , and where , considering the river , velocities are low and ( uni- uni ) form . The exhibits represent ( minimum minimuni ) or fair conditions and do not apply to any section where rapids riffles or contraction in the channel occur . , , |
