Show to the mile ; the Green River 85 , between the town of Greenriver and the mouth of the San Rafael has a . fall of 2.6 feet per mile ; between the mouth of the San Rafael and the Junction , a fall of about 1.15 feet per mile . The Colorado River , between Mile 176 and the ( Arizona-Utah ArizonaUtah ) ( line Iffie ) , a fall of about 2 feet to the mile . Like the Red River , the Utah rivers are filled with a succession of contantly shifting sand bars . In the Utah rivers these sand bars may change from day to day . Like the Red River , the Utah Rivers have no permanent or stable channels , and within the confines of the canyon walls the current shifts from time to time , and braided channels are quite frequently found . The commerce on the Red River exceeded anything which has ever been attempted or hoped for on the Utah rivers . ( See Appendix to brief , page 187 . ) The history of the Red River shows that over a period of many years fishing and hunting boats , ferries , lumber rafts , launches , logs , and steamboats at times were operated on the Red River ; that prior to the coming of the railroads , boats laden with ( mer- mer ) ( chandise chandisb ) from New Orleans and Shreveport , ( Loui- Loui ) siana , went upstream to Kiamichi , and even as far as the mouth of the Washita , and returned with the products of the soil . No such situation arises upon the Green River . Every commercial experiment on this river resulted in failure and the abandonment of the boats . 35623-31-7 |
