Five of went up stream in an out- board motor, in one boat, all except the Slide. Q What happened there? A One man rode the boat around; the rest walked around; it took all the capacity of this boat for us to ride; wasn't two inches stuck out when we was all loaded in. We didn't feel like trying to ride through the Slide with it, but we rode the rest of the way up to the oil well. BY MR. BLACKMAR: Q It was 1915 that you first went down to Hite, was it? A Yes, I think so. Q What was the purpose of that expedition? A Why, I started only to go to Hite; I went clear through to Lees Ferry eventually; I took my time, and took Mr. LaRus and Mr. Richardson to Hite. They expected then to try to get Bert Loper to take them through with a row boat to Lees Ferry; and when we got down there, Mr. Loper wasn't there, so they said I had to go with them from there on down, |
