Show 6848 Wimmer- C 4837 Q That was hauled overland? A Yes sir. Q Why didn't you bring it down the river? A We was afraid of the cataracts. Q You never have been through Cataract canyon, have you? A No sir. Q In the operation of boats on any of these rivers have you ever had any trouble with your motors on account of getting sand in the bearings? A No, the sand don't get in the bearings; it simply wears out your pump; this water that goes through your engine simply goes around it, don't go in your bearings, at all; it is your pump that wears out. It has no chance to get in your bearing. Q You never have had any sand get in the bearings/ instance, if you let the grease get out of where you are supposed to grease the motor, the water will go into the gears; I used to grease mine twice a day, so as to use the grease as a kind of preventative from water getting in. I used the same engine the full time I was in there, that is, one season, a different engine each season. |
