Show 6747 Wimmer- D 4736 A Well, just depends; now, in certain conditions of water if you are pulling it very heavy and the water is shallow, it sinks the lower end, it takes quite a draft, if you have nothing on the bow to hold it up in smooth water the bow will stay down. Q What draft did it have as originally constructed when it was carrying loads? That would depend on the amount of load, I realize, but if you can, give us some idea of the draft. A I would say it had a black line that was a foot draft; I don't remember; Mr. Wolverton estimated this boat to carry three tons on the river when we built it; he is an engineer; I don't know whether he estimated that foot line was three ton mark or not; we have had more and had less on it. Q More and less than three tons? A Yes sir. Q When you put more than three tons on, what was the draft? A It was pretty near sunk, about three inches of it sticking out; three feet sides. Q Then it would be in excess of two and a half feet draft? |
