Show 6778 Wimmer- D 4767 and our oil, our supplies for the one- way trip, to do us twenty days. Q Can you give us in weight what that load was? A Well, I couldn't , but I have looked into it as far as I could. I have got no records to go by, but I would think probably each boat was loaded seven hundred pounds or there-abouts. Q Now, you say you had difficulty in geeting up one place? A Yes sir; we didn't have power enough. Plenty of water, -- we didn't have power enough to run it. Q Were you pushing these two other loaded boats? A Yes sir. Q How did you get your boats up that place? A Well, my boats I took up just as they were. Q You made it all right, did you? A No, not without help; one main trouble was, these boats were about sixteen or eighteen feet long, each one of them; that would make them over thirty feet long; this swift running water we go so slow that we couldn't hold them. If we get the least bit sideways in that amount of current, it will sweep you down. So I let a man get out and made it, and hold the nose |
