Show Tracl 1 p> A new era started for the University's track team when for the first time in track history the Ute cindermen beat Arizona State. While the track team receives only four full scholarships, with the coaching of Pete Carlston and a dedicated group of tracksters, the Ute track team has become a power in the WAC. Led by distance men Sal Mendoza, Ron Zefferer, and Scott Bringhust, javelin ace Marcel Chappuis, hurdlers Denny Hall and Hugh Vor-hees, high jumper Rich Farmer, and vaulter Jack Snow, this year's Utah track team achieved their best season for several years. Highlights of the season were Scott Etnyre's win over BYU's Perrti Pousi in the triple jump and Bob Batie's all out effort in San Diego, where he won both the 100 yard and the 220 yard dash and was anchor man in the winning 440 relay and mile relay teams.
