Show They call him Merv The Magician, and he performs magic on a basketball court. Given the title while still in high school - where he was twice named the outstanding player in his region - Merv Jackson came to the University of Utah from Savannah, Georgia in anticipation of Jack Gardner's miracle teams and lightning-paced style of ball. Starting big, Merv led the freshman team to a 12-1 season, averaging 22 points per game. His ball handling skills and feather-lighttouch earned him a starting berth on Gardner's 1966 WAC championship team with the great Jerry Chambers. Scoring over 10 points per game, Merv helped carry Utah to 4th place in the NCAA finals at College Park, Maryland, and now, as the leader of one of Utah's youngest quintets, Merv has doubled his average and notched impressive performances at home, at Stanford and in New Orleans' holiday Sugar Bowl Tournament for All-America consideration. Jackson shows his style as he hits for two points on a baseline drive against Loyola of Los Angeles player. Utah's next All-America candidate: Merv Jachson Jackson has the amazing ability to hang in the air while getting his shots off. At 6'2", Jackson outjumps 6'8" teammate DeWitt Menyard in California game. |
