Show AWS lO Best Dressed Women photographs by George Goebel AWS represented an active women's organization on campus this year. Susan Clyde, president; Judy Hamilton, vice-president; Kathy Hulbert, secretary; and Virginia Lundgren Bywater, treasurer, worked hard to create unity among University women. The Big Sister program was initiated this year to help entering freshmen obtain friends and get advice concerning the University from upperclassmen. The freshmen moving into the dorms received letters during the summer from their Big Sisters and were guests at a tea on the Union Patio in the fall. Later in the year, early risers participated in the Dawn Yawn Dance, where Richard Johns reigned as 'Don Juan,' and a breakfast planned by chairman Joan Van Sickle. Highlighting the year's events was Women's Week, organized by Nancy Hedrick, with activities to include everyone. "Women of the World" set the theme for the luncheon and fashion show featuring the "U's" own ten best dressed coeds-Pat Connie Mahoney Lee, Liz Dutson, Barbara Goeglein, Patty Jackson, Connie Mahoney, Marcia Messina, Pam Paulos, Maggie Tsumagari, Linda Wilton and Nanette Roberts. Bridal night attracted many to a fashion show of bridal gowns, bride's maids' gowns and going away outfits. At the annual Hall of Fame, outstanding University women were presented with AWS scholarships and awards in Home Economics and Nursing. Members of Cwean and Mortar Board were tapped, and women of Naiads, Army Sponsors, Angel Flight and Spurs were introduced. Of special interest to all was the presentation of the new AWS officers. AWS Standards Board consisted of a representative from each women's unit on campus, with Vice President Judy Hamilton representing AWS. The board helped liberalize key privileges for women living on campus. AWS has shown women their place on campus and has helped form a better community for all. 138 |
