Show Members of the Utah ski team are (front row) Bjorn Loken, Bruce Hammond, Randy Balice, Daniel Craig, (row 2) Dave Engen (Asst. Coach), Pete Karns, Robin Newcomb, Ladd Christensen and Matz Jenssen. Ski T earn Weight-changing to stay in the fall line saves seconds. Improving over last year's finish, the Utah ski team copped fourth place in the NCAA championships held this year in Andover, Maine. Ending a brilliant season, Matz Jensen won the skimeister trophy at the national event as his teammate Bjorn Loken took fourth place in the 45 meter jump. The tournament victory capped a winning season which included a BYU Invitational championship, 3rd place at Steamboat Springs, Colorado, and 4th place at the Denver Winter Carnival. Three individual WAC titles were won by Ute skiers. Matz Jensen claimed Nordic combined and skimeister honors, and Pete Karns cross country. Other outstanding skiers were Dave Enger, Ladd Christensen and Frithjof Prydz. A Ute skier cuts close to the gate. |
