Show Arti sts and bpeakers Jose Soares adds depth to Brazil '66 with his Latin guitar. Brazil '66, the newest and most alive sound to hit the United States from South of the border since the Tijuana Brass, was the Artists and Speakers attraction during winter quarter. Sergio Mendes, leading the group from the piano, heads a Latin based rhythm ensemble and has tried to present a combination of cool jazz, hard rock, and bossa nova. "To put you in the picture, Brazil '66 is the name applied to the four-man, two-girl entertainment unit which was conciously, commercially created to bring bright, sharp music to bright, sharp people of no special class, sex, or age group." After an unsuccessful first appearance in the United States, Sergio Mendes retreated back to Brazil to regroup and present a new program which has caught on, making Brazil '66 part of the "in" crowd. The swirl of material and the Latin rhythm stirs this Spanish dancer into a frenzy of movement. Janis Hansen and Lani Hall provide vocal enrichment for Brazil '66 while Bob Mathews plays bass.
