Show Student Lirea '67 -Sponsored by National Issues Forum Shaking off the doldrums that have beset this committee in the past, this year's National Issues Forum sponsored a three-phase program during winter and spring quarters centered around, as the title suggests, the American College Student -Circa '67. Kicking off the program were two well-known representatives from the University of California at Berkeley: Dr. William P. Boyd, Vice-Chancellor for Student Affairs, and Dr. John Hadsell, Protestant Chaplain, who related different but complementary views on the causes and conditions of the student turbulence there. Phase II, relating the student to extra-campus concerns, featured a highly successful reciprocal panel discussion with students from BYU on the question of academic freedom and university-imposed morality, and planned an explanation of the NSA-CIA linkup by Ed Schwartz, National NSA Vice-President (which curiously fell through at the last minute.) Phase III focused on the intra-university concerns of the student and spawned the successful but sparsely attended Election Issues Week, a series of programs to meet student candidates. A U. of U.-BYU panel discusses academic freedom and university-imposed morality. Dr. John Hadsell, Protestant Chaplain at Berkeley, chats at u reception before presenting a talk on student turbulence on the Berkeley campus. Organizations Board candidates prepare for student questions. Public Affairs Board candidates participate in Election Issues Week. |
