Show 80 Q All the way down. Now, the second time. through what distance did you line the boats? A The second rapids, as I remember, was one of the worst we encountered, and the rapids was indicated on the map as being a mile or more in length, and it was necessary at that for us to carry our equipment practically a mile. Q And in your judgment it was approximately a mile? A Yes, sir. By the Special Master: Q Did you carry that along the shore? A Yes, sir. By Mr. Farnsworth: Q Then the third time, over what aggregate distance did you line your boats? A The next bad point was-- there were two rapids together, so that we had to line our boats the entire distance of the two rapids, which was approximately a mile-- no, not as long as the other one; probably three- quarters of a mile. Q Three- quarters of a mile. Then the fourth occasion when it was necessary to line your boats, what was the aggregate distance of the line? A The distance there was not over a quarter of a mile. Q Then the other occasion, what was the aggregate distance? A As I remember, now, there were four times only, and not a fifth time. 2040 |
