Show 56 received in evidence and marked " Complainant's Exhibit No. 28.") By Mr. Blackmar: Q Does this photograph to be marked as Complainant's Exhibit No. 29 also represent the lining of boats ( handing photograph to witness)? A ( Examining photograph) Yes, sir. One thing that makes lining difficult and dangerous is the weight of the water. The water carries so much sand and silt, for instance, that I found at times, where it was just splashing over me, that my pockets would commence filling up with sand; and so I had to cut them off. That is what sometimes happens in the river in places where it is necessary to do lining- a man's pockets will fill with silt and sand and his clothing will be torn from him and carried away and buried. The force and weight of the water is so great that it will sweep you off your feet, even when you are up to your knees, thus adding very greatly to the difficulty and danger of lining boats around. we had our major difficulty in lining boats. Mr. Blackmar: I offer this photograph in evidence as Complainant's Exhibit No. 29. ( The photograph referred to was received in evidence and marked " Complainant's Exhibit No. 29.") Mr. Farnsworth: Was that photograph taken at the same rapid? The Witness: Yes. 2016 |
