Show 82 through this rapids that we had to stop and patch her. Those were the major accidents to the boats going through the Cataract. Q Now, you could observe from the markings on the bank that the stage at which you took this trip was a decidedly high- water stage? A It was high water, yes. Q What marks did you observe on the banks to indicate that there had been in recent years any higher stages? A Nothing going through Cataract Canyon. The Sand piles up high. I doubt, however, if I remember seeing anything going through Cataract Canyon that would indicate the higher stage there. Q Very well. You spoke about, ( during this flood, the heavy, torrential rains that happened to come at that time) the water going up the banks for a distance of 30 feet, I believe; is that correct? A Yes. Q What slope was that 30 feet on, approximately? A Well, approximately the slope illustrated in Exhibit No. 40 ( indicating). The height of the rise, of course, depends on the width of the canyon. Q Yes. A In some places it would be 10 feet, where it was wider, and in other places, it would be 30 feet, where it was narrower. 2042 |
