Show 59 boats was unable to get to shore at No. 5 and was swept through that rapids. The other two boats made the shore safely. The boat that was swept through did get through, one of the large boats; it got through the rapids with a large hole in it which we had to repair. By Mr. Blackmar: That is Exhibit No. 31. Now, tell me about this photograph to be marked Exhibit 32. The Witness: No. 32 and 33, and maybe 34-- they are all together. By Mr. Collins: Q Which ones are they? A These are 32 and 33, simply photographs to indicate the character of the river going through Cataract Canyon. By Mr. Farnsworth: Q Are they at any particular rapids-- Rapids No. 5, or where? A I think that that is No. 5. Q Still No. 5? A Yes; it is either No. 5 or No. 23. By the Special Master: Q On these photographs, you say the photograph shows the river at relatively high level of water, as indicated by quantities of driftwood. Is this the general nature of the driftwood that you refer to as being in the river at portions of the river? A ( Examining photograph) Yes, sir. 2019 |
